Artist: Kaneko Kuniyoshi (July 23, 1936 - March 16, 2015). Japanese oil painter from Warabi, Saitama. Born as the youngest of four sons in a wealthy textile merchant family. Studied at Mission school Seigakuin Junior/Senior High School, then enrolled at Nihon University College of Art, Design Department in 1959. Apprenticed under kabuki stage designer Nagasaka Motohiro. Became freelance designer after briefly working at a graphic design company. In 1966, illustrated Shibusawa Tatsuhiko's translation work. Debuted at art world in 1967 with exhibition 'Blooming Maidens' at Aoki Gallery in Ginza. Known for paintings of alluring women with decadent, fin-de-siècle atmosphere. Worked extensively on book covers and illustrations for publications including Fujimi Roman Bunko and Yuriika. Opened gallery 'Bijutsu Club Higurashi' in Jimbocho in 1998. Had long friendship with Junko Koshino and collaborated with L'Arc~en~Ciel's hyde on artwork and design projects.
