Gibson GA-79 RVT 2×10 Stereo Combo Vintage Amplifier - Extremely Rare - Circa 1964

1 / 1

Description

Sound output has been confirmed with reverb working properly. The speakers are said to be the original Jensen from that time period. I received this as a gift. The tremolo has been reportedly repaired previously but is no longer functional. This is quite a rare vintage stereo amplifier from Gibson. The Gibson GA-79 RVT is a rare stereo tube combo amp from the early 1960s, mainly designed for stereo output guitars like the ES-345. ### Main Specifications - **Output**: Maximum 30W (stereo 2x15W). - **Speakers**: Jensen P10Q 10-inch x2. - **Tube Configuration**: 3-4 x 6EU7 in the preamp, 7199, 12AU7. Power section: 2 x 6L6 or 4 x 6BQ5/EL84 (varies by model year), 5V4 or diode for rectification. ### Channels - 2 channels. Each channel has Volume, Treble, and Bass controls. ### Effects - Reverb (effective and deep), Tremolo (with Depth/Freq controls). ### Features and Usability - Features a stereo/mono switch and can also be used with regular guitars, offering warm sound and excellent clarity. Only 409 units of the 1961 model were shipped, making it a rare find. The control panel includes guitar/accordion inputs and stereo input jacks, with a tweed cover and chrome panel. The original user manual includes a circuit diagram. This is a remarkable vintage stereo amplifier. Sound output is smooth and full with no noise. The tremolo engages momentarily when the switch is pressed but doesn’t maintain a constant tremolo effect. Everything else seems to be in working order; however, since it's a vintage amplifier, I ask for no claims or returns. If possible, direct pickup would be preferred.

Collector Commentary

The Gibson GA-79 RVT, produced in the early 1960s, remains a coveted piece in the vintage amplifier market, particularly for its unique stereo output designed for guitars like the ES-345. With only 409 units of the model reportedly shipped, its rarity significantly enhances collectability, especially among enthusiasts of vintage audio equipment. The presence of original Jensen speakers further solidifies its desirability, while the minor tremolo issue does not detract from its overall performance and historical value. Japan's market is favored for such vintage gear, often reflecting better preservation and authenticity, making this listing noteworthy for serious collectors.
