Seiji Togo Born in 1897 in Kagoshima Prefecture. A Western-style painter. Graduated from Aoyama Gakuin Junior High School. Studied under Seibo Arishima. In 1921, he moved to France to study at an art school. Special exhibition of 23 pieces created during his time in Europe at the 15th Nika Exhibition. 1st Shōwa Western Painting Encouragement Prize. Received the Japan Art Academy Prize and served as the chairman of the Nika Association. In 1969, awarded the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government. Founded the Togo Seiji Art Museum. Died in 1978, posthumously recognized for cultural contributions and awarded the Fourth Order of Merit. |
