Description
Tackle Mogyuu Series (タックル猛牛シリーズ) is a manga work written by Kenji Nanba shortly after his debut in rental booklet gekiga. Published by Tokyo Top Company. The series was popular due to its protagonist Tackle Mogyuu and became a long-running series exceeding 30 volumes in rental booklet format. A blend of gag and serious adventure action manga that was well-received by youth in the 1960s.
Nanba aspired to become a manga artist from middle school, influenced by Osamu Tezuka. He studied manga under Yoshiteru Takano in his third year of middle school. He debuted in rental manga with "Kouetsu no Kessen" in his second year of high school. After graduation, he attended Asagaya Art Specialty School. Subsequently, while assisting Takao Saito alongside Noboru Kawasaki and others, he drew action manga and period drama manga for rental booklet publications.
He joined the "Gekiga Group" collective founded by Saito, created hit rental gekiga works including competitive works with Masaaki Sato such as the "SN Series," and established Nanba Production. During the rental gekiga era, the "Attack Action Series" in particular depicted American military activities after the Normandy landings and dominated as combat gekiga.
Later, with the decline of rental gekiga, he shifted his writing to manga magazines, producing numerous hard action gekiga works in Weekly Shonen King, Weekly Shonen Magazine, Weekly Manga Action, and others.
