1 / 1

Description

Fender Mustang Competition Candy Apple Red CAR - The neck plate, neck end, and pots suggest it's from around 1972. - This Mustang has a relatively thick neck for its era, and it's very easy to grip with fantastic resonance! - The artistic weather checking is truly impressive! - The price of Competition Mustangs continues to rise! - The guitar is managed in a controlled indoor environment with careful attention to temperature and humidity using a guitar hanger. - This rare piece is expected to be highly functional. Accessories: - Hard case (original but has some repairs and is reinforced with plywood to prevent bottom issues). There are some white paint spots near the sides that seem like tiny splashes. - No arm included. - Likely had a refret and re-nut done. - The pickguard has been replaced with a 1970s model. - Both pickups were replaced with 1966 Mustang gray bobbin units (which produce an excellent sound!) - No original parts included. - The volume pot has some scratchiness but resolves after turning. Other switches currently function without electrical issues. - The tuners and neck show no abnormalities, and the truss rod is confirmed to adjust over 45 degrees both ways. String height: 12f, 6th string at 1.7mm, 1st string at about 1.1mm - currently no buzzing reported (this may change depending on season and environment). Weight: approximately in the low 3 kg range? While I occasionally check and play it, please note that the condition may vary due to temperature and humidity, especially for such an old instrument. Only serious buyers who understand vintage guitars should consider this. I will pack it securely, but I cannot be responsible for any accidents during transport. For any reason, please note that there are no returns or exchanges to prevent parts swapping. Please confirm "receipt of item" after you receive it. If I don't hear from the buyer within 24 hours after winning, I will cancel the order due to buyer's convenience. Please check out my other vintage instruments for sale!

Collector Commentary

The 1972 Fender Mustang Competition model, particularly in the striking Candy Apple Red finish, remains a coveted piece among collectors, reflecting the era's unique aesthetic and craftsmanship. Known for its distinctive sound and comfortable neck profile, this model has seen sustained demand due to its association with iconic musicians and significant cultural relevance within alternative music scenes. While this guitar features modern upgrades with historical components, collectors in Japan, where these pieces were originally produced, often prioritize condition and originality, factors that clearly affect collectibility and value. With prices consistently trending upwards for competition models like this, the rarity and appeal of the Mustang are well established in the vintage guitar market.
